The African-American Resource Center Presents: JoAnne Bland

What:

Born and raised in Selma, Alabama, JoAnne was an active member in the Civil Rights Movement as a child. She witnessed firsthand how racism and segregation created a deadly divide in America. As an 11-year-old member of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), JoAnne was a participant in "Bloody Sunday," marching on the Edmund Pettus Bridge alongside 600 or more only to get brutally beaten, tear gassed and hit by policemen on horses with ‘billy’ clubs. She was the youngest person to be jailed during that period. JoAnne She is the co-founder and former director of the National Voting Rights Museum in Selma, Alabama.

We will meet in the Van Pelt Lounge at 4:55 pm and then walk over to hear from this powerful speaker. Please register here in advance.
