Book Event: Poison Ivy--How Elite Colleges Divide Us.

What:

With affirmative action likely coming to a swift end in the face of challenges in the U.S. Supreme Court, and with it race-conscious admissions, we should come to better understand universities and how they do—and do not—champion “diversity”. Professor Evan Mandery (author) and former Penn Law student Krystle Salvati (featured) will discuss Mandery’s excellent book entitled “Poison Ivy: How Elite Colleges Divide Us.”  The book examined how twelve schools (the “Ivy Plus” group – the 8 east coast Ivies, Stanford, the University of Chicago, Duke, and MIT) employ a wide range of practices that make wealth inequalities quite extreme on their campuses. From college recruitment and admissions, to preferential treatment of legacy students and standardized testing, inequality is build into the system and results in the exclusion of lower-income populations and people of color.

Lunch and a copy of Poison Ivy will be provided! You must RSVP here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdwJH3I47rzTZ1aqMu4qj71vVSrmG-v...
