| Benjamin Laughlin Truesdale is a second-year student in the Ancient History PhD program at Penn. He has a B.A. in Liberal Arts (2002) from St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD (the “Great Books” St. John’s, not the “basketball” one!), and a Master’s in Early Church History (2008) from the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Ben loves the exciting and oftentimes strange world of “late antiquity.” He also loves all things German and is looking forward to meeting all of the students in the Deutsches Haus! He started learning German back there in middle school (gasp! in the Dark Ages of 1992); he managed to live in Germany for two years after college; and he also taught German at a private high school for a spell. Ben spends most of his time reading ancient Greek, Latin, and Biblical Hebrew; in all of his free time he plays drums in several bands, collects LPs and antique books, goes out to see all the great local music in Philly, and rides bikes and skateboards. |
