Edward Olmos plays Jaime Escalante, a high-school math teacher who inspires his East Los Angeles students to stay in school. Based on a true story, the film chronicles the transformation of his at-risk students into high-achieving math students. In 1982, 18 of Escalante’s students passed the AP Calculus exam, prompting an investigation for fraud. A defining portrayal of an inspirational teacher who helps students to triumph over the odds—through calculus.
