The German House is a half-credit course with concentrations
in German conversation culture, and film. Students may enroll for credit or
simply participate without enrolling. All interested parties are welcome.
Recurring weekly events include:
Kaffeestunde (Thursdays in the Greenhouse
7:00pm-8:00pm): Kaffee, like food, is another building block of German culture. We meet on
Thursdays to converse in German about everyday life or any other topics that
interest us. During coffee hours, we will often play German board games,
read short articles from German publications as a group or prepare German
recipes.
Stammtisch (Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00pm
in 1920 Commons downstairs): Food is an axiom of any culture and Germany is no
exception. We eat dinner together on Mon and Wed evenings, and the language
around the table is, of course, Deutsch. If there is a film screening on a
given week, we will discuss the film over dinner.
Note: If you do not have a university meal plan, contact
the Program Director if you are interested in attending Stammtisch.
Filmabende (Alternating Tuesdays at 8:00 PM
in the Class of 1925 TV Lounge): Every other Tuesday evening at 8:00pm we
present classic and contemporary German-language films on the big screen in the
basement of Class of 1925
