Don’t worry about being bleary-eyed or wearing your shirt inside out; borderline catonia is par for the course. In addition to standbys like bagels, cereal, donuts, coffee, etc, brunches usually feature pancakes, eggs, waffles, and other goodies cooked up by Gregory residents. | | | | | Faculty Master's Open House: Class of 1925 | | | When:

Dan Dunne (Ryan Gosling) stars as an idealistic but erratic eighth-grade history teacher in a Brooklyn school who befriends13-year-old student Drey (Shareeka Epps) after she finds him smoking crack in the locker room. While Dunne spirals further into drug addiction, he attempts to keep Drey out of trouble, intervening ineffectually into her relationship with a neighborhood drug dealer. Half Nelson offers a powerful rewriting of the “heroic white teacher” story through its unsentimental portrayal of a well-meaning (but wrong-doing) teacher and through its careful attention to Drey’s perspective. The film is distinguished by excellent performances by both Gosling and Epps (Gosling was nominated for an Academy Award for the role), and a soundtrack by Broken Social Scene.
**This film screening counts toward the accredited Film Culture Program, so a short discussion will follow. All are welcome.

IT'S ALL IN A DAY Film Series
Dog Day Afternoon
(US, 1975)
125 minutes
Directed by: Sidney Lumet
Starring: Al Pacino, Charles Durning, and Chris Sarandon.
A gripping true crime yarn, a juicy slice of overheated New York atmosphere, and a splendid showcase for its young actors, Dog Day Afternoon is a minor classic of the 1970s. Al Pacino plays Sonny, who, along with his rather slow-witted accomplice Sal, holds hostages after a botched a bank robbery. Sonny finds himself transformed into a rebel celebrity when his standoff with police (including lead negotiator Charles Durning) is covered live on local television.
